“How to End a Love Story” by Yulin Kuang delivers a heartfelt exploration of complicated emotions and relationships. The narrative struggles at the beginning, but does gain and maintain momentum. The tumultuous journey of love and heartbreak truly draws a reader in and the raw portrayal of sibling and parental relationships sets this novel apart. The story is filled with poignant moments that resonate with readers, however, there are certain plot threads that could have been explored further. Nonetheless, “How to End a Love Story” is a compelling read that captures the bittersweet essence of love for various character relationships and the inevitable shortcomings or prevailing emotions that accompany it.
We love the 2018 Eden Rift Chardonnay for this contemporary romance. This California white wine is a nod to the primary backdrop of this book with tangy acidity matching the tenuous relationship between the main characters. If you love a MMC with a woodsy fire burning scent (because who doesn’t), like our man Grant, you will enjoy the hint of oak and flint featured in this wine. The book’s slow start but strong ending mirrors the chardonnay’s bright finish. Pour yourself a glass and enjoy.
“I’d rather have a fraction of you than all of someone else.”
